Ouargla in Algeria
HOOR-guh-lah

The Ouargla are a Berber people who live in and around the oasis city of Ouargla in central Algeria, which has a major university as well as being a center of oil production. The Ouargla Berbers comprise less than 16 percent of the city's population and have their own unique language and culture that pre-dates the Islamic conquest of North Africa in 670-700.

Ministry Obstacles
The Ouargla are a small group. Like most Berbers, they are strongly influenced by Islamic beliefs, though their practices are generally relaxed.

Outreach Ideas
Nearly all recent church growth in Algeria has occurred within the Berber communities of northern Algeria. Those who minister the gospel can accelerate their efforts for the Ouargla and other Berber tribes. This may be their time!

Scripture Focus
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction."  Proverbs 1:7

Scripture Prayer
Pray for many from this people group to find true knowledge by fearing the Lord of heaven.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the churches would be led by faith to bless those around them with the fragrance of Christ. Pray that the believers would feel fulfilled and that they would spread the word to others close to them. Pray for the Lord to move among the Ouargla in such a way that they spread Christ's ways of peace and mercy to other Berber tribes. Pray for a movement among the Ouargla this decade that will spread to other peoples in Algeria.
