Southern Pashtun in United Kingdom
pahsh-TOON

The Pashtun of Afghanistan and Pakistan consist of several major tribes. Driven by socio-economic, political, tribal and linguistic (dialectical) differences, Pashtuns nevertheless share a unique sense of common identity. Pashtun identity is based on heritage (descent from a common ancestor), Islam, the Pashtunwali code of honor ("the way of the Pashtun") and, to some extent, language (Pakhtu or Pashto). Despite a long record of mission work among the Pashtuns, a vibrant, indigenous, disciple-making movement has never taken root in Pakistan or Afghanistan. Thanks to international meddling in Afghanistan, there is a sizeable Pashtun diaspora in the United Kingdom. These Pashtuns have fled two generations of war. Some are well established in the United Kingdom while others arrived in 2021. They are beginning the difficult process of assimilation.
