Arab, Cyrenaican in Libya

Cyrenaica is the eastern coastal region of Libya. Previously it was a province of the country (alongside Tripolitania and Fezzan). The old system of administrative divisions was abolished in the early 1970s and the provinces are now smaller size municipalities. The Bible makes famous a resident from this area: Simon, who helped carry the cross of Christ. Cyrenaica was conquered by the Islamic Arabs by the first caliph, Abu Bekr, in 643/44. The area was ceded to Egypt, taken by the Ottoman empire, ceded to Italy and then made an independent territory, part of Libya. Not much is known about the daily lifestyle of the Cyrenaican Arabs.

Ministry Obstacles
Relations between Christians and Muslims are relatively good in Libya. However, there are restrictions for Christian religious activity. It is prohibited to proselytize Muslims and religious literature is restricted.

Outreach Ideas
Simply reading the Bible and encouraging the listeners to go home immediately and begin to live out and obey it can be effective.
