Hunan Iu Mien in China
HOO-nahn YOO-mee-en

The Hunan Iu Mien people of southeast China have battled with the Han Chinese for centuries. They fled the lowlands inhabited by the Han to live and farm in the high mountains. The present Chinese government has maintained the policy of trying to turn the Iu Mien into Han Chinese. The Iu Mien have resisted these efforts and still speak their own language as their heart language. Most Iu Mien still practice their ancient religion of ancestor veneration, animism and Taoism.

Ministry Obstacles
The Hunan Iu Mien people live in remote mountains that are not easily accessible to Christ’s ambassadors. The government stands against efforts to spread the gospel, and the Iu Mien see Christianity as a foreign religion opposed to their traditions and culture.

Outreach Ideas
Chinese Christians can go to the Iu Mien and build redemptive relationships with them. Christians can show the JESUS Film, which is available in Iu Mien.

Scripture Focus
"Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD."  Psalm 32:10

Scripture Prayer
Pray for many from this people group to notice this stark difference and turn to the Lord.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the Lord would inspire anointed Han Chinese Christian believers to pray for and go to the Hunan Iu Mien. Pray the Iu Mien would begin to read and study the recently translated Iu Mien Bible. Ask the Lord to raise up a church planting movement among the Iu Mien of China in this decade.
