Arabized Shaikia in Sudan
SHAE-ghee-uh

The Shaikia claim descent from Shayig Ibn Humaidan, who came from Arabia at the time of the conquest of Egypt in the 7th century. The Shaikia consist of twelve sub-tribes, each descended from one of the twelve sons of the founder, Shaig. Most children attend government school. Women teach while men farm. Children attend religious schools called Khalawi where they learn and memorize the Koran before attending government school. The Shaikia tribe speaks and writes its own Arabic dialect.

Ministry Obstacles
Muslims in Sudan do not welcome Christian workers, so evangelists need creative access approaches.

Outreach Ideas
Perhaps the Shaikia tribe will discover the availability of scripture downloads in their language to phones and computers. Because the Shaikia have twelve sub-tribes, the twelve tribes of Israel might be a bridge of God to open them to reading the Old Testament.

Scripture Focus
"And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?"  Hebrews 3:18

Scripture Prayer
Pray that today’s people group would enter into God’s spiritual rest by trusting in and obeying His Son.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the few individuals within the Shaikia tribe who identify themselves as Christians; that they would live holy lives and consistently demonstrate the fruit of God's Spirit. Pray for peace in Sudan. Pray also the Shaikia tribe would have improved medical care and for adequate rainfall for their crops and livestock as a testimony of God's power and love. Pray this would be the decade of harvest among this unreached and neglected people group.
