Shahari in Saudi Arabia
sha-HAR-ee

The story of wise men or magi from the East bearing gifts for the infant Jesus is a familiar story to all Christians. One of those gifts was the precious and costly frankincense. Where does it come from? It comes from Oman, specifically the region near the border of Yemen and Oman, where the Shahari live. Some Shaharis live in neighboring Saudi Arabia, and their lives are difficult in this extremely dry, hot part of the Arabian Peninsula. They are nomads and are in constant search for water.

Ministry Obstacles
Ministry obstacles include their nomadic lifestyle, illiteracy and their lack of access to gospel materials, especially the internet. In addition, there is tremendous community pressure for the Shahari people and other tribes in the area to remain true to Islam.

Outreach Ideas
Outreach opportunities would include mobile health care units that can serve these nomads. The young people are seeking to improve their lives by moving to cities, so they might be reached in urban centers.

Scripture Focus
"Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord."  Acts 13:12

Scripture Prayer
Pray for many from this people group to be amazed at what Christ can do to bless their families and communities.

Prayer Focus
Pray for mission groups to specifically reach out to the young people in cities and start Disciple Making Movements among them, with the hope that new believers will return to their nomadic roots and share Christ with others.
