Jat Sidhu (Sikh traditions) in India
jot sih-DOO

Who are the best farmers in India? Some might say they are the Jats who originally came from Iran and migrated to Punjab, India. They became excellent farmers. Their success in time allowed them to become prosperous landowners and to this day they are some of the wealthiest people in India. Their amazing skills in weaponry and fighting gave them the ability to defend their land against others who tried to conquer them. Around 1669, they successfully fought against the Mughal Empire and upheld their regional rule in Punjab. They were highly respected by the British for their martial skills who recruited them into all branches of the Indian army. In the years that followed many of the Jat soldiers received high honors for their valor. Currently, many Sidhu Jats have advanced through education to successful professional positions. There are still a fair number of Sidhu who struggle to maintain their farms to provide for their families.
