Mochi (Muslim traditions) in Pakistan

When purchasing saddle or leather shoes in Nepal, northern India or Pakistan, chances are good that it was put together by a Mochi. The name "Mochi" comes from the Sanskrit mochika and the Hindi word mojna which mean "to fold." While the Chamar initially slaughters and prepares the cattle hide, the Mochis typically finish with the leather-making of products. In South Asian cultures, people usually have a lower status for doing menial or unpleasant work, especially when handling dead animals. This attitude spills over to the Mochi. For this reason, Muslim Mochis unfortunately maintain a very low status. The Mochis are more respected than the Chamars. There has been a long-running competition between the two groups for superiority. However, in some areas, the two groups are indistinguishable.

Ministry Obstacles
Pakistan is a Muslim culture heavily influenced by Hinduism. Educational standards are low among Mochi.

Pray for an abundant harvest of souls among the Mochi that will result in church planting, disciple making, and transformed lives. May God work within the Mochi so that they gain enough resources in their language to understand the gospel. Pray additionally for this people group's hearts to be drawn to them. Pray for the Lord to raise up and thrust out disciplers to go to the Mochi.
