Kachera (Hindu traditions) in India

The Kachera are a lower-middle status community. Their traditional occupation was that of being peddlers and small business owners. Many Kachera make and sell bangles. Parents encourage their sons to pursue higher education. Educated Kachera are entering professions in medicine, engineering, science, and finance. Families arrange marriages within the group with the consent of the young people. Unlike many Hindu communities, the Kachera bury their dead with the head to the north. A caste council settles legal disputes and enforces social customs. Hindus believe that by performing rituals and good works, they will attain moksha or freedom from the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. The Kachera visit Hindu temples and offer prayers, food, flowers, and incense to their gods in hopes of gaining protection and benefits.

Ministry Obstacles
There are currently few or no Kachera believers in Christ. That means they must hear the gospel from cultural outsiders, whom they may not trust.

Scripture Focus
"Who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,"  Psalm 103:3

Scripture Prayer
Pray that this people group will flee to the Lord who alone can forgive sin.

Prayer Focus
Pray for a spiritual hunger that will give the Kachera an openness to the teachings and blessings of Jesus Christ and a move away from idol worship. Pray for a movement to Christ that will soon bless the Kachera. Pray for the Lord to send workers to the Kachera and share with them the message of Jesus and his love for them.
