Hira in India

The Hira potter community in Assam, India, is known for their traditional occupation in earthenware pottery. They practice ancient hand-molding techniques without using wheels, preserving one of the oldest methods of pottery-making. The Hira live under the shroud of poverty, and the Assamese government is trying to change this. Functional literacy and community welfare programs are crucial for the Hira potters' socio-economic development.

Ministry Obstacles
As education is not prioritized, more than half of the population is illiterate. All the Hira are Hindu, and they have their own sacred specialist. They believe in many gods and goddesses, ghosts and magis, and engage in idol worship. When something wrong happens in their homes, they immediately offer something to their gods. Their religious practices date back to the 15th century. However, there is a small Christian presence in the region, with various Christian materials available in the Assamese language, including films and gospel recordings.

Scripture Focus

Scripture Prayer
Pray that today’s people group will understand that glory, holiness and power come only from our Lord and king.

Prayer Focus
Pray for believers to help the Hira increase their literacy rate, enabling them to improve their standard of living. Pray for a greater penetration of the Christian faith and that they may have access to gospel materials. Pray for a positive spiritual response when they hear about the deeds of Jesus Christ. Pray for Hira disciples who will make more disciples. Pray for the Lord to give them economic and spiritual prosperity, and that they know he is Lord of all.
