Byansi in Nepal

Isolated, hard to get to, and hard to talk with. These words describe the Byansi (aka, Humla). This people group has a developed language called Humla, while the ability to read or write in Nepali or other languages is weak. However, they speak a form of Tibetan that is somewhat like other Tibetan languages in Nepal. Byansis are proud of their culture, community, and language, and they want to remain different than their neighbors. This is a factor that potential church planters will need to consider.

Ministry Obstacles
The Byansis live in a part of India where there is almost no gospel witness and no Christians. Gospel workers will need to make a special effort through prayer and outreach to penetrate this community.

Scripture Focus
"This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you—"  Titus 1:5

Scripture Prayer
Pray for the Lord to raise up elders to lead this people group into all truth.

Prayer Focus
Pray for his kingdom to come and his will to be done among the Byansi. Pray for a movement of Byansi households to study the Bible and accept the blessings of Christ. Pray for a spiritual hunger that will drive the Byansi to the loving arms of Jesus. Pray for workers who are filled with the fruit and the power of the Holy Spirit to go to the Byansi. Pray that they will see that becoming followers of Jesus will enhance their otherness, which they cherish.
