Jat (Hindu traditions) in India
jot
The Jat community takes great pride in their ancestry. They are known to be brave, hardworking people who possess both the desire and ability to rule. Today, most Jat are well read, and some occupy high positions in academic and technical arenas. Jat are usually taller than their neighbors. Because of their larger build, along with their reputation for violence and control of land and village income, they are generally feared by other communities. The Jat are also among the most prosperous groups in India on a per-capita basis. Ironically, they value thriftiness and diligence and are often regarded as miserly.
Ministry Obstacles Jat tend to have a high regard for themselves. As a Jat proverb says: "Men may come and men may go, but I go on forever." This sense of pride and accomplishment, along with a popular South Asian misconception that Christianity is only for the downcast, keeps the hearts of Jat closed to the gospel.
Scripture Focus "Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!" Psalm 95:1-2
Scripture Prayer Pray that many from today’s people group will sing joyfully to the Lord, the rock of their salvation!
Prayer Focus Pray that Jat will have a spiritual hunger and seek Jesus Christ.
Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers filled with the power and the fruit of the Holy Spirit to serve the Jat.
Pray for a movement to Christ to emerge among them.
