Zaza-Alevi in Germany
ZAH-zah AH-lah-wye
Do you know what it's like to not fit in? The Zaza-Alevi people living in Germany do. They consider themselves Muslims but have retained some ancient beliefs, giving them the label "heretic" by orthodox Sunni Muslims. They consider themselves to be Kurdish, but their language is unintelligible to Kurds. The Turks also do not accept the Zaza-Alevi as part of their people. The Zaza people speak German at work, Turkish in their neighborhoods and Northern Zazaki at home.
Ministry Obstacles Because of being rejected and set apart, the Zaza-Alevi tend to be protective of their language and culture. This is a wall that believers will have trouble penetrating.
Outreach Ideas The JESUS Film is available in Northern Zazaki, the heart language of the Zaza. German churches can reach out and help the Zaza learn German, enroll their children in schools and settle into their new country.
Scripture Focus "Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!" Psalm 141:2
Scripture Prayer Thank Him for making your prayers as precious as an incense offering. Thank Him that in praise, there is His presence.
Prayer Focus There may be few if any Christian believers among the Zaza-Alevi of Germany. If there are, pray that the Lord would bring them together under the banner of Christ. Pray that the Lord would convict the hearts of the Zaza of their need of the only Savior and his forgiveness. Ask the Lord to raise up disciples among the Zaza-Alevi of Germany in this decade.
