Kapariya in India

The Kaparia of north India are businessmen and farmers. The traditional occupation of the Kaparia has been to buy and sell used clothing, and some make baskets for sale. Others seek alms. Some Kaparia households own agricultural land, which has been given to them by the government. They may worship Mandri Dadi, Kaduababa and Rustamlal as family deities, while Durga, Kali, Ganesh, and Shankar Bhagwan are worshipped as village deities. A sacred specialist from within their own community sometimes performs worship and officiates at their life-cycle rituals, and at other times, a Brahmin priest is employed for these duties.

Ministry Obstacles
North India is very dark spiritually, and in many parts, only one in a thousand professes Christ. There are few if any near the Kaparias who believe in the only savior.

Scripture Focus
"Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."  John 6:35

Scripture Prayer
Pray that this people group hungers for God and begins to feed spiritually on the Bread of life, Jesus Christ.

Prayer Focus
Ask the Lord to raise up and send out a new generation of fruitful, multiplying witnesses from among the Kaparias. Ask for God to deliver families and communities within them from fears that hinder them from embracing his blessings. Pray for movements to Jesus to sweep through Kaparia families, permeating the group from within. The Kaparia would benefit by seeing God's love shown to them by genuine Christ followers. Pray for Christians to live victorious, abundant lives, leading to spiritual discussions with their neighbors.
