Pashtun in Pakistan
pahsh-TOON

The Pashtun of Afghanistan and Pakistan are considered the largest Muslim tribal society in the world. There are at least 30 major tribes, as well as numerous sub-tribes and clans. Pashtuns are spread over a vast geographical area and divided by socio-economic, political, tribal and linguistic (dialectical) differences, yet share a unique sense of common identity: heritage (descent from a common ancestor); Islam; the Pashtunwali Code of Honor ("The Way of the Pashtun"); and to some extent, language (Pakhtu or Pashto).

Ministry Obstacles
There are few known Christ followers from a Northern Pashtun ethnic background. They will need to hear the gospel from outsiders. Commonly, they don't trust those outside their community.

Scripture Focus
"And many nations shall join themselves to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you."  Zechariah 2:11

Scripture Prayer
Pray that this people group would be among the many nations that soon join themselves to the Lord.

Prayer Focus
Pray for a movement to Christ among Pashtuns that will spread far and wide. Pray for more workers to live among the Pashtuns and work alongside them, allowing them to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for God's Spirit to strengthen and protect new believers and empower them to take Christ to other Pashtun communities. Pray for Pashtuns to be aware of gospel radio broadcasts, gospel recordings, and the JESUS Film. Pray for the Lord to send dreams and visions of the Risen Christ to Northern Pashtun family elders and clan leaders.
