Adamawa Fulani in Cameroon
ah-DAH-mah-wah foo-LAH-nee

In the 1800s, Modibo Adama, a scholar and Muslim holy warrior, led a jihad in what is now Cameroon and Nigeria, paving the way for Fulani colonization of the region. He continued his campaign, conquering numerous villages and eventually founding his own empire, which he named Adamawa after himself. The Fulani established Islam as the dominant religion in the area. Over time, some Adamawa Fulani have moved beyond pastoral life to become scholarly and influential community leaders, with potential roles in regional politics. From a young age, children are raised to value generosity, honesty, and modesty, and parents typically arrange marriages. This blend of religious devotion, cultural tradition, and emerging leadership defines the Adamawa Fulani as both resilient and adaptable within their communities.

Ministry Obstacles
The Fulani are almost entirely Sunni Muslim, with many animistic beliefs blended in. They are a proud people who look to Islam or to the ways of their ancestors rather than to Jesus for life's answers.

Pray that the few followers of Christ among the Adamawa Fulani would be filled with the fruit of the Holy Spirit in such a way that their Muslim neighbors will want Christ in their lives as well. Pray for compassionate believers to take Christ to the Adamawa Fulani. Pray that the Lord would soften and prepare the hearts of the Fulani to receive the gospel. Pray that Christ would draw them near and show them true love and grace.
