Kurmi Mahato in India
KUHR-mee ma-HA-toe

Kurmi Mahato live in West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar. They speak Oriya, Bengali and Hindi. The Kurmi Mahato work in agriculture and generally pursue education. They like dancing. Family leaders arrange marriages and allow for divorce and remarriage. After the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son taking charge of the family. Almost all in this community consider themselves Hindu. As Hindus, they worship whatever god they believe will offer them protection and prosperity.

Ministry Obstacles
There is much community pressure, both from the village and family level, to remain in the Hindu fold.

Pray that soon all mankind will bow in humble submission to the Lord Almighty.

Pray that Indian believers will help them to begin an unstoppable movement to Christ. Pray for spiritual discernment and hunger. Pray for their leaders to open the door to their communities seeking and finding Jesus Christ.
