Khatri (Sikh traditions) in India
KAH-tree

The Sikh Khatri are a trading caste with a long history in South Asia. Past census records listed more than 700 different subdivisions within the community. Traditionally, they have been involved in banking and moneylending, though some have also taken up farming. Marriages are arranged through negotiations, often with the help of a barber or family relative, and monogamy is strictly practiced. Unlike some other groups, there are no outward symbols of marriage among the Sikh Khatri. Their literacy rate is relatively high, and their influence stretches across India, Pakistan, and into Afghanistan.

Ministry Obstacles
Because the Sikh Khatri are spread widely across South Asia, reaching them with the gospel will require multiple efforts and approaches. Evangelistic work and church planting must be carried out in many different regions, each with its own challenges and cultural dynamics.

Scripture Focus
"A God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him?"  Psalm 89:7

Scripture Prayer
Pray that many from today’s people group will understand that the only God is the Lord, and they must turn to Him. Pray they will be in awe of His might.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the Sikh Khatri to recognize their need for a savior and to come to see that God has provided that Savior in Jesus Christ. Pray that many will begin to seek knowledge of the Lord and receive faith to believe. Pray for teachers and mentors who can help new believers grow strong in their understanding and walk with the Lord.
