The Kurds are the largest ethnic group in the world without a state of their own, spread across Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Iraq. Traditionally, Kurdish society developed from nomadic and semi-nomadic lifestyles, organized into tribes that remain central to their identity today. Society is strongly fragmented, often divided by internal disagreements and rivalries, with tribal loyalties taking precedence over broader national unity. Historically, this tribalism has hindered Kurdish efforts to establish an independent homeland. Language also reflects their diversity, with Sorani being one of the two major Kurdish dialects. Kurds live in countries heavily influenced by Islam.

Ministry Obstacles
Sorani Kurds are usually Sunni Muslim, though they are unorthodox. That might be because of their historical allegiance to the Zoroastrian religion. They are less committed to any religion than most Muslims. However, Islam is part of their identity. They need hearts that want spiritual truth above all else. As the majority of them live in countries where Islam is predominant, it can be hard to minister to them.

Pray for the Lord to send dreams of the Risen and Victorious Christ to Sorani speakers. Pray that Kurdish leaders would be willing to investigate the claims of Jesus Christ. Pray that God would create a hunger for the Bible and spiritual truth in the hearts of Sorani Kurds. Pray for Sorani Kurds to experience the surpassing glory, power, and love of Jesus Christ so they can become committed to him. Pray that God would help the Kurds find their identity in Christ.
