Duano in Indonesia

Orang Kuala means "People of the river mouth", but the Orang Kuala call themselves Duano. They are peaceful folk. Orang Kuala, are one of the nineteen Orang Asli groups living in Peninsular Malaysia. They are not particularly drawn to technology, and only a small percentage of them complete their secondary education. In the past, they were boat-dwelling sea nomads and specialized in sea fishing as well as searching and hunting for food on the seashore. Today, most of the Duano make their living by fishing. They use different types of traps, ranging from traditional to modern.

Ministry Obstacles
There is no scripture reported in the Duano language. However, the people are shifting towards the Malay language, and there are many resources available in this language. The literacy rate in the Duano language is nearly zero, and the literacy rate in Malay is about 50%. Educational and economic development is spreading throughout Malaysia. Like many of the other Orang Asli groups, however, the Orang Kuala are lagging behind because they are not attracted to education or technology. This will limit them to oral and visual gospel materials.

Scripture Focus
"I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word."  Psalm 138:2

Scripture Prayer
Pray that many from this people group will delight in His promises, and seek His unfailing love.

Prayer Focus
Pray that local believers will relate and respond to the needs of these people. Ask the Creator to give Christ followers willing to sacrifice time and effort to help Duano. Pray that soon there will be Duano Christ followers discipling others who will, in turn, disciple others.
