Thami in Nepal
TAH-mee

The Thami are hard-working and extremely honest, but neighboring peoples often exploit them. They are looked down upon, so some try to pass themselves as members of other ethnic groups. There have been recent efforts to promote Thami art to give them a better social standing. The Thami scarcely manage to survive as farmers or stone quarry workers. Often, the men must carry large heavy stones great distances to make a living. To escape from this hardship, many have traveled to find other work. Their economic conditions are very poor. The Thami consider marriage to be a very sacred institution, and they believe in staying faithful to one partner until death.

Ministry Obstacles
Most of the Thami practice ethnic religions and shamanism, and while they worship deities that are not in any of the major religions of the region, they use Hindu rituals in their marriage ceremonies. Their religious beliefs do not fit neatly into any category. There are some Christian believers among them, but not enough to evangelize the entire group.

Scripture Focus
"The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"  John 1:29

Scripture Prayer
Pray that today’s people group looks to the Lamb of God, Jesus, to have their sins taken away.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the Lord will send Christians to the Thami who will share the gospel with them and bear their burdens. Pray the Lord would soften the hearts of the Thami to the gospel. Pray that the Lord would encourage Christians among the Thami and give them courage and wisdom to make disciples.
