Zhugqu Tibetan in China
Zhoog-choo ti-BEH-ten

The Zhugqu Tibetans carry a long history. One Chinese writer described them as descendants of people who fled war long ago and settled in the surrounding valleys, where they have multiplied over generations. Before Buddhism took root, they followed the ancient Bon religion, which taught that mountains are sacred. Even today, many believe that powerful spirits dwell in the peaks. They pray to the mountain gods for peace, protection, thriving herds, and good harvests, hoping to secure the blessings needed for survival in a challenging environment.

Ministry Obstacles
The Zhugqu Tibetans have almost no background knowledge of Christ or exposure to his message. Without a framework for understanding who Christ is or what he has done, it will take patient teaching and a long-term presence for the gospel to take root.

Scripture Focus
"Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly."  Psalm 85:8

Scripture Prayer
Pray that those who follow the Lord among this people group will never return to their old ways.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the Lord to reveal himself to families in ways they can recognize and understand. Ask God to send loving workers who will live among them and show Christ's compassion. Pray that their hearts will be drawn away from fear of spirits to the Lord of lords. Pray for a vibrant movement to Christ to rise up in their communities, bringing hope and transformation for future generations.
