Mavilan in India

The Mavilan are a Scheduled tribe in southern India. Traditionally, they were hunters/gatherers, but as the population continued to increase in India, they had trouble keeping their land. The Mavilan, like other tribes in this crowded part of India, have often been pushed off their land by those with more political power. Their social structure includes clan-based leadership, and they often live in remote forested areas. They practice animistic rituals alongside Hindu customs, especially during festivals and healing ceremonies.

Ministry Obstacles
It is difficult for the gospel to make inroads into a people group when there are no Christians among them like the Mavilan. Ideally, gospel work will start with Mavilan leaders who can spread the fragrance of Christ to others. Many Mavilans live in forested or hilly terrain, making outreach logistically difficult. There is low literacy rates providing limited access to written gospel materials.

Scripture Focus
"You have said, Seek my face. My heart says to you, Your face, LORD, do I seek."  Psalm 27:8

Scripture Prayer
Pray that many from today’s people group will crave fellowship with the One True God.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the lives and culture of the Mavilan to evidence the rule and reign of the kingdom of God as they open to the gospel, and for the beauty of Jesus to be seen in them. Pray for Jesus movements to bless extended Mavilan families so the gospel will spread rapidly among this people group. Pray for the spiritual lives of the Mavilan to become fruitful as they follow Christ. Pray for translation and oral storytelling efforts.
