Saek in Thailand

The Saek (Tai Sek) live on both sides of the Mekong River in central Laos and Thailand. Many speak both Lao and Thai. Families raise livestock (mainly poultry, pigs, and goats) that run freely underneath their houses. The Saek stay in contact with the Lao and the Thai by bartering goods such as meat and vegetables for clothing and salt. The Saek depend on the monsoon rainfall to water their fields. Men are responsible for clearing the fields for planting, building houses, fishing, and hunting. The women weed the fields, help with the harvest, and carry on most of the trading. Very few of the Saek have moved to the cities of Thailand or Laos.

Ministry Obstacles
With such a small number of Christ followers, the Saek must depend on outsiders to bring them the gospel. In Laos, there is harsh discrimination against Christians, so the Saek are reluctant to consider following Jesus.

Scripture Focus
"After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"  Revelation 7:9-10

Scripture Prayer
Pray that many members of this people group will be part of the vast crowd praising God in heaven.

Prayer Focus
Pray for outside Christians to use music and other culturally appropriate ways to share the life of Christ with the Saek. Pray for the Saek to have open hearts to receive the gospel message and for the Holy Spirit to bring many to faith in Jesus.
