Patani-Maba in Indonesia

Most Patani-Maba make their living as farmers or fishermen. Some work in the wood processing industry. Most still practice a migratory form of agriculture, moving to find better sustenance after they have depleted the soil's fertility. Like many others in this region, they engage in slash-and-burn dry rice farming – cutting down trees and burning the underbrush. Their system of mutual cooperation among neighbors is called gotong royong. This practice is pervasive throughout Indonesia and is used for clearing new land, building houses, and hosting weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies. The Patani-Maba lack formal and vocational education and seldom have opportunities to improve their skills.

Ministry Obstacles
The Patani are entirely Muslim. They will need to hear the gospel from outsiders. Typically, people are more likely to trust someone inside their community.

Scripture Focus
"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."  James 4:8

Scripture Prayer
Pray that God draws this people group to Himself. Pray that their hearts are purified and become completely devoted to Him.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the Lord to send loving workers to the Patanis. Pray for their elders to have dreams and visions of Jesus. Pray for them to open their hearts to the Lord of lords.
