Shin in Pakistan
The Shin make their living as farmers and shepherds. They plant grain on terraced fields and use oxen for plowing. In the remaining areas, which are very dry and irrigated by glacial runoff, they raise barley, wheat, maize, millet, and rice, supplemented by potatoes and a variety of vegetables. Since they can only grow one annual crop, the people rely on the "transhumant" herding of their dairy goats and cattle. This method involves transferring their livestock from one grazing ground to another with the changing seasons. During the summer months, they leave their permanent villages and drive the cattle, goats, and sheep towards alpine pastures.
Ministry Obstacles Mountain ranges and political borders often isolate the ethnic groups residing in the northern areas. Despite the distance from other people groups, Islamic missionaries once worked among the Shin and won them to Islam. Spiritual change can happen, but it will require sacrifice.
Scripture Focus "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saint." Ephesians 1:17-18
