Dhanuk in India
dah-NOOK

Dhanuk build their houses in clusters in the river basins and on the edges of forests. They are occupied with fishing and animal husbandry, and many earn their livelihood by working as agricultural laborers and household servants. Dhanuk believe in magic, witchcraft and ghosts. They are divided into two groups in terms of religion: those who worship Kali are called Kaliyaha, and others are called Maharkhiya. Landlords and well-to-do persons in private households and farms employ the Dhanuks. Since Dhanuk dwell in the river basins and the edges of forests, they fish and raise livestock. Some Dhanuk are landowners, while others are landless. Many earn their livelihood by working as agricultural laborers and household servants.

Ministry Obstacles
The Dhanuk community speaks nearly thirty languages. Evangelistic and church planting projects need to accommodate these language subdivisions.

Scripture Focus
"Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit."  Psalm 51:12

Scripture Prayer
Pray that when some from this people group accept the ways of God that they will be refreshed with joy and share it with others.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the low-status Dhanuk community to be able to care properly for their families and to raise their standard of living as needed. Pray that they prioritize education for their children and that schools are accessible. Pray for the Holy Spirit to give them a desire to seek and encounter spiritual truth found only in Jesus Christ.
