Hadrami Arab in Yemen
hah-drah-MEE AE-rub

The family of Osama bin Laden traces its origins to a Hadrami named Awad bin Laden from the village of Al Rubat. The Hadrami tribe has lived historically in the Hadhramaut region of Yemen, a region that includes some 1,300 tribes. Few Hadrami today practice the nomadic lifestyle of their ancient ancestors. They have a long seafaring and trading tradition, which has seen them migrate in large numbers all around the Indian Ocean basin. There are Hadrami communities in the trading ports of the Arab States of the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. The money changers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia have usually been of Hadhrami origin.

Ministry Obstacles
Yemen is in a state of turmoil and the dangers are many. Any kind of overt Christian witness is dangerous.

Scripture Focus
"And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever."  Revelation 4:9-10

Scripture Prayer
Pray for members in this people group to give glory, honor and thanks to the God who sits on the throne.

Prayer Focus
Pray for peace in Yemen. Pray for a stable and effective government that will rule with justice. Hadrami Arabs are widely scattered in many countries, including some locations where the gospel is freely available. Pray the Lord will arrange for encounters between Christian believers and Hadrami Arabs. It is doubtful if there are any followers of Jesus today among the Hadrami of Yemen. Pray for additional believers in other tribes to share the gospel.
