Lubu in Indonesia

The Lubu once roamed the mountains, lived in treehouses, and subsisted on the jungle's products. They are still very tribal in their basic lifestyle. They now live in huts near their farms. The village government is led by older males whose sons often succeed them. They are generally despised by their Batak neighbors, who suspect them of partaking in witchcraft. They live in central Sumatra, mainly inhabiting mountainous regions near the Batak, a Christian tribe that is slowly absorbing them. Musical instruments and songs have been adopted from the Batak. Interestingly, Lubu never dance, but they love music and singing.

Ministry Obstacles
Though they are officially Muslim, they honor a host of good and evil spirits. The Lubu attribute sickness to the work of evil spirits. Their animistic religious beliefs and the veneer of Islam keep them in spiritual bondage. The remoteness of the Lubu has significantly contributed to the neglect of missionary efforts.

Scripture Focus
"For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ."  2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Scripture Prayer
Pray for the Holy Spirit to give new believers among today’s people group victory over their spiritual battles.

Prayer Focus
Pray for peace and goodwill between the Lubu and the Batak, so that their Christian neighbors can extend outreach to them. Pray for the Lord to establish his church among the Lubu this decade. Pray for the Lord to provide an abundant harvest this season as a testimony of his lovingkindness and power.
