Gondhali in India
Traditionally, many of the Gondhali were oil-pressers. Today, their primary occupation is farming, and some operate small businesses. Their women are highly proficient in sewing, embroidery, and knitting. The Gondhali have seven clans (gotra), whose names differ from their surnames. A Brahmin priest usually performs death rites. Others sing songs and dance to honor the gods and goddesses of Maharashtra. They use drums in their worship and, as Hindus, they worship Khandoba and Ellamma.
Ministry Obstacles In Maharashtra (the main home of the Gondhali), Christians struggle with nominalism. Infighting and legal squabbles have crippled ministry and undermined witness to local unreached people groups like the Gondhali.
Scripture Focus "Praise the LORD, all nations! Extol him, all peoples!" Psalm 117:1
Scripture Prayer Pray that some from this people group will praise Him this year.
Prayer Focus Pray for the Lord to bring unity to the church in Maharashtra as a testimony of his goodness.
Pray they will be drawn to gospel radio and the JESUS Film, listen, and understand.
Pray the Gondhali will encounter Christian believers who are real disciples of Jesus, people who live out their faith and are able to help the Gondhali also become disciples of Christ.
Pray for a movement to Christ among the Gondhali that will bless all of Maharashtra.
