Ranau in Indonesia

The Ranau live in South Sumatra, a province on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. Their primary means of income is growing coffee and tobacco. Many Ranau carry a small knife called a "keris." In weddings, the groom gives a keris to his bride as a sign of his promise to protect her. Their marriages follow Islamic customs.

Ministry Obstacles
Only a small number of the Ranau faithfully practice their Islamic rituals. Even so, converting to another religion is strictly forbidden, even in cases of marriage to someone from another faith. Their identity is closely tied to Islam.

Scripture Focus
"And you will say in that day: Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted."  Isaiah 12:4

Scripture Prayer
May this people group praise Him and tell others of His mighty deeds.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the Ranau to see the glory of the Lord and be drawn to Jesus. Pray for their elders to have dreams and visions that open their hearts to Jesus. Pray for the Lord to give the Ranaus a hunger for the truth. Pray for loving workers.
