Azeri Turk in Türkiye (Turkey)
uh-ZARE-ee terk
The Azeri Turks in Turkey straddle the Turkish and Persian worlds! Their language is Turkish-based, but their religion is Shi 'ite Islam. Most speak Azerbaijani and Turkish, two similar languages. The Azeri Turks feel at home in Turkish society. They live mainly in Igdir, where they are the largest people group and also in Kars, where they are the second largest group. Most Azeri Turks came to Turkey in the first half of the twentieth century. Since the early 1990s many more came for financial reasons.
Ministry Obstacles The Azeri Turks have very little contact with any Christian believers.
Scripture Focus "and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also." 2 Timothy 2:2
