Jalo Berber in Libya

The Jalo Berber economy is based on a delicate balance between farming and cattle raising. They depend on domestic animals for carrying heavy loads, dairy products, meat, and hides. Men do most of the farming, while women are responsible for milking and gathering. The Berbers are skilled in various crafts. Community government is notably democratic. Authority is vested in an assembly called the jemaa, composed of all adult males, which usually meets weekly and seeks to preserve peace within the region. The threat from insurgents is making their job much more difficult.

Ministry Obstacles
The Jalo Berbers are nominally Muslim. Unlike orthodox Muslims, Jalo Berbers believe the spirits of their ancestors are gods. One of the greatest obstacles to reaching the Jalo Berbers is that many live in Libya, a country where armed insurgents make travel dangerous. It is difficult to get the gospel to people who are trying to hide from danger, and Libya is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for Christians.

Scripture Focus
"By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just; by me princes rule, and nobles, all who govern justly."  Proverbs 8:15-16

Scripture Prayer
Pray that this truth will put the fear of God in the hearts of all who hold power.

Prayer Focus
Pray the Lord will send Christians to reach the Jalo Berbers with the gospel, and that he will protect these believers as they minister to them. Pray for the Lord to appear to them in dreams and draw them to himself in repentance. Pray for protection, courage, and wisdom for any Jalo Berbers who come to faith in Christ.
