Kachhi (Hindu traditions) in India
kah-CHEE

Education is provided to both male and female Kachhi, although further study is not encouraged for women. The diet is traditionally vegetarian (which reflects both their Hindu background and agrarian lifestyle). However, as Hindu nominalism creeps in, their diet now occasionally includes meat. The Kachhi Hindus predominantly worship Hanuman, Rama, Krishna, Shiva, Kali, and Durga. They celebrate various major Hindu festivals and practice rituals of cremation, preferring to place ashes in the Ganges River. In the cities, many of the younger Hindu Kachhi are becoming increasingly nominal. In Gujarat, some have started to adopt Muslim concepts and festivals like Ramadan.

Ministry Obstacles
Workers going to this people group need to be aware that a total of 25 languages are spoken within the community. This suggests the need for several outreach projects, one for each of these languages.

Scripture Focus
"Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever."  Psalm 111:3

Scripture Prayer
Pray for many from this people group to find this God whose righteousness never fails.

Prayer Focus
Pray for improving literacy levels among this community, especially among the younger people. Pray for the youth to gain a desire to learn more about Jesus. Pray for the Lord to call, equip, and thrust out workers who will disciple the Kacchis in Christ's ways.
