Figig Berber in Algeria

Most Berbers refer to themselves as the Imazighen, which means "men of noble origin." Figigs are one of many Berber tribes. The Berbers are a North African people group that Arab Muslim invaders conquered in the 7th century. The name "Berber," derived from the Latin word "barbarian," was given to them by the Romans in the third century A.D. Today, the term "Berber" refers to any native speaker of one of the Berber languages. To this day, the various Berber tribes in North Africa coexist with their own distinct culture and the dominant Arabic culture. Berbers are generally bilingual, speaking both their Berber dialect and Arabic.

Ministry Obstacles
There are almost no Christ followers among the Figig Berbers. That means that they must hear the life-changing gospel from members of other language communities.

Scripture Focus
"The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead."  Acts 17:30-31

Scripture Prayer
Pray for today’s people group to repent of their sins and to believe in the God of the Bible.

Prayer Focus
Pray for Figig Berbers to put their faith and hope in Christ, paving the way for a movement to Christ. Pray for a spiritual hunger among Figig Berbers that will lead them to the cross and the empty grave. Pray for workers to go to the Figigs and find people who will welcome them into their communities with the gospel of peace.
