Chidimar in Nepal

Chidimar (meaning bird hunter) is a suitable name considering they once earned their living from killing birds and/or selling them. They live in harsh poverty, and most people are unable to purchase new clothes for their children. Due to their poverty, many Chidimars are forced to sew, weave, drive rickshaws (e.g., small motorcycle taxis), and engage in masonry work. Young students value their education at primary schools because it can give them opportunities to earn more money. Education is essential to the Chidimars because they believe it will ultimately alleviate their poverty and improve their standard of living. They speak Bhojpuri, a language where many are now Christ followers.

Ministry Obstacles
Geography can be a hindrance to the spread of the gospel. Who will cross any mountain to take Christ to these spiritually needy people in Nepal?

Scripture Focus
"Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen"  Jude 1:24-25

Scripture Prayer
Make this your prayer for today’s people group.

Prayer Focus
Pray that God will protect the Chidimar from other caste groups trying to overpower them and destroy their history and culture. Pray that God starts a revival among the Chidimar, uniting them with one goal: to know Christ, live Christ, and preach Christ to the unreached. Pray for Bhojpuri-speaking workers to go to the Chidimars. Pray for an unstoppable movement to Christ among the Chidimars that will spread to other communities in Nepal.
