Kumhiar (Hindu traditions) in India
KOOM-ee-ar
In the rugged hills of Jammu and Kashmir, farming is difficult and food is often scarce. The Kumhiar live with this struggle every day, cultivating wheat and potatoes in poor soil. Constant reminders of conflict worsen their hardship, as Indian soldiers patrol the area because of the ongoing tension with Pakistan. The Kumhiar are little known outside their region, yet their daily lives are shaped by poverty and war.
Ministry Obstacles Conflict zones restrict movement, limiting both trade and communication. For those who might bring the gospel, access is dangerous and often impossible. The Kumhiar remain isolated physically and spiritually, in a region with very few Christians.
Scripture Focus "Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble." Daniel 4:37
Scripture Prayer Pray for leaders of this people group to repent before the Lord Almighty like this king.
Prayer Focus Pray that the Lord provides food, safety, and peace for the Kumhiar.
Ask God to stir spiritual hunger among them, opening their hearts to Christ.
Pray for courageous workers to reach out to them, and for a movement of faith that brings hope to this often-overlooked community.
