Dampelas in Indonesia

The Dampelas believe their forefathers were beings from heaven who could incarnate themselves in certain plants, and one of these incarnated plants became a man. The Dampelas make their living primarily as hunters, farmers, and craftsmen. The people are shifting from the Dampelas language to the Indonesian language.

Ministry Obstacles
The Dampelas have been Muslim for generations. Many are proud of their Islamic identity and devoutly seek to follow the five pillars of Islamic practice. However, others still hold to traditional animistic beliefs, such as belief in powerful spirits and sacred places. The Dampelas utilize weapons or amulets imbued with supernatural powers to counter enemy attacks.

Scripture Focus
"Both we and our fathers have sinned; we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness."  Psalm 106:6

Scripture Prayer
Pray that many family leaders from this people group will understand that their people are sinful just like the Israelis, and that they need to seek the Lord for forgiveness.

Prayer Focus
Please pray for a greater number of evangelists and church planters to be established throughout Sulawesi. Pray for workers for a spiritual harvest. Pray for spiritual hunger among the Dampelas.
