Sale Mala in India
SAH-leh MAH-la
The Sale Mala are a Scheduled Caste, meaning that they have low to average standing as a Hindu community. They live in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. They are not vegetarians, but they do not eat beef and pork. They were once known for being weavers but farming is now their main work. Most of them are very poor. The Sale Mala often marry their cousins. As Hindus they depend on the gods and spirit beings who they believe will provide them with protection and favor. The Sale Mala speak Telugu. There are plenty of Telugu speaking congregations and gospel materials.
Ministry Obstacles They have a low literacy level so the gospel will need to be offered in oral form.
Scripture Focus "The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-26
Scripture Prayer Pray this blessing on today’s people group.
Prayer Focus Pray for intercessors and workers to faithfully adopt the Sale Mala people. Pray for spiritual hunger that will lead them to the only savior. Pray for them to understand that the Lord can provide for all of their physical and spiritual needs.
