Yakthumba Limbu in Nepal
yahk-THOOM-bah lim-BOO
Limbu people compose one of the largest tribal groups in eastern Nepal. The origin of the Limbu is uncertain, but they are clearly of Mongolian descent. Although the abundance of land has made cultivation of new acreage possible, productivity is greatly limited by insufficient technology. Many of the men are in military service and leave their families for long periods. Consequently, women have much responsibility and influence within their families, although they are patrilineal (line of descent is traced through males) in structure.
Ministry Obstacles The gospel is very hard to access for these remote people.
Scripture Focus "And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm." Mark 4:39
Scripture Prayer Pray that the Lord brings His peace that passes all understanding into the hearts of this people group.
Prayer Focus Ask the Lord to bring forth vigorous Limbu churches that will plant others for the glory of His name. Ask almighty God to raise up prayer teams who will begin breaking up the spiritual soil through worship and intercession.
