Yerong in China
Yahng-hooung
The Chinese praise the Yerongs as being an honest and hardworking people. Much intermarriage with other tribes has resulted in a dwindling population. As more Yerong youth leave their home communities to marry and live with other people groups, the very existence of the Yerong is becoming increasingly endangered. Found only in China, the Yerongs, are part of the Yao-Mein people cluster. Their primary language is Yerong. The primary religion practiced by the Yerong is animism, a religious worldview that natural physical entities such as animals, plants, and even inanimate objects possess a spiritual essence.
Ministry Obstacles They are still waiting to hear the gospel for the first time. Workers will struggle to effectively reach the isolated Yerong by themselves. Believers from related minority groups or from Han Chinese churches are best suited for effective evangelism. As it stands, few, if any, will take this step.
Scripture Focus "So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, Do you understand what you are reading?" Acts 8:30
