Sonar (Hindu traditions) in India
suh-NAR

Gold has long been a symbol of wealth and honor in South Asia, and the Sonar are its craftsmen. Traditionally goldsmiths, they design jewelry that plays a central role in Hindu weddings, where brides wear their dowries in gold ornaments crafted by the Sonar. Even when absent, their work is seen on display in shimmering form. Many Sonar families today are pursuing education and rising in status, claiming social rank just below the Brahmins.

Ministry Obstacles
A Sonar who follows Christ risks losing not only personal standing but also the recognition of his community. High caste pride can make humility before God difficult.

Scripture Focus
"Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name."  Acts 5:41

Scripture Prayer
Pray that believers in this people group are willing to endure persecution for the name of Christ.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the Sonar to recognize their need for forgiveness and to find it in Christ. Ask for the gospel to reach their families and for believers among them to remain steadfast. Pray that their communities will see the true value of salvation, far greater than gold.
