Northeast Pashayi in Afghanistan
The Pashayi who live at lower elevations are mostly rice farmers. Those who live at higher elevations are wheat and maize farmers and herders. A tribal people, they submit to a village council, which is the authority on issues affecting the entire village. Each family unit appoints extended family members who comprise the council. Feuds often arise, as personal disputes are resolved by the individuals who have been wronged. Pashayis value masculinity and honor above all else. To them, the ideal man is a proud warrior, loyal to his family, a formidable foe to his enemies, and always prepared to engage in a feud. Every Pashayi man carries a knife or a gun.
Ministry Obstacles Pashayis live in a land where there are probably no Christian followers, and the Islamic religious system is never challenged. Their form of Islam is harsh, and so is their view of Allah. They have no concept of a loving Heavenly Father.
Scripture Focus "His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’" Matthew 25:21
Scripture Prayer Pray that many in this people group become good and faithful servants of the Master and celebrate with Him in the coming kingdom.
Prayer Focus Pray for God to intervene in miraculous ways, perhaps through dreams and visions of the victorious, risen Christ.
Pray that the Pashayi will have a spiritual hunger that will open their hearts to the King of kings.
Pray for workers who are driven by the love and boldness of the Holy Spirit to go to them.
Pray for Northeast Pashayi disciples who will make more disciples in Afghanistan.
