Urdu in Canada
OOR-doo

Large numbers of Muslims speak the Urdu language in Pakistan and North India. It is the primary language in Pakistan. Urdu speaking people began living in Canada around 1960. The Urdu in Canada were concerned that they would lose their culture so they formed their own community groups. They are adjusting well to living in Canada. Their children are doing well in education and in work. They are involved in local politics and in the arts, especially poetry. Many are professionals in medicine and many have their own businesses. There are many Urdu speaking students in Canada. Gospel workers can reach out to Urdu speaking teenagers and children who are trying to adjust to secular Canada. They can show them the way to the cross, teaching the moral principles of the Bible.

Ministry Obstacles
A Muslim people group that is trying to keep what is left of their traditional culture is rarely open to the gospel.

Scripture Focus
"See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship."  Exodus 31:2-3

Scripture Prayer
Pray that as members of this people group become part of God’s holy family that they will also find His purposes for them.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the Christians among the Urdu would lead entire Muslim families to Jesus Christ. Pray that God would give the Urdu dreams and visions showing that Jesus Christ is the way to salvation. Pray for Urdu speakers to begin their own movement to Christ and take the only savior back to South Asia.
