Teli (Hindu traditions) in India
TEL-ee
The Teli were once known for extracting cooking oil, a daily necessity in Indian households. With modernization and automated oil production, their traditional work has largely faded. Many Teli have adapted by running small grocery shops in villages or becoming merchants in local markets. These changes have given them a measure of upward mobility, allowing some to step into new opportunities while still staying rooted in community life.
Ministry Obstacles For many Teli, Christianity is viewed as a foreign influence that divides families and disrupts community life. This perception makes it difficult for them to see the gospel as a source of blessing rather than a threat. Fear of social problems and broken family ties creates resistance to the message of Christ.
Scripture Focus "Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you," 2 Thessalonians 3:1
Scripture Prayer Make this your prayer for this people group.
Prayer Focus Pray for God to stir a deep spiritual hunger among the Teli that draws them toward the cross of Christ.
Ask for a movement of faith that brings whole families and entire communities into the joy of God's blessing.
Pray for workers filled with love and patience to come alongside them, until there are Teli believers strong and willing to disciple their own people.
