Introduction / History

The Chura live in India and Pakistan. In Himachal Pradesh, in Chamba, they speak Chambiaii and Hindi and write in Perso-Arabic and Devanagari. They are also called Chuhra and Chuhre. They are not vegetarians but the Hindus and Sikhs do not eat beef or buffalo. The Chura remove dead animals and soil and are scavengers. Some of them cultivate. The women work as well as doing the housework. The Chura are known for basket work. They worship ancestors. About half of them read and write. After they have had two children, they often practice family planning.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Chura speak Dogri and Punjabi. They eat wheat and rice for cereals. Some of them have their own businesses. They have a low literacy level so the gospel should be given in oral form also. Most of the Chura Christians among them are Protestants.

Prayer Points

* Pray that the Chura Christians will lead the others to salvation
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation too.
