Introduction / History

Iraqis have come to Germany during the last fifty years. Some are students and some are refugees leaving Iraq because of violence and war.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Iraqis in Germany have several organizations representing them. These organizations are mixed and there are Arabs, Kurds and Iraqi Christians among them. The Arabs are both Sunni and Shia Muslims.

The Iraqi organizations in Germany take part in international politics. These organizations are helping in the reconstruction of Iraq. They take part in discussions on Iraq and get the German public informed on the situation in Iraq. They help with business dealings between Iraq and Germany and try to get Germany to help Iraq financially. Some Iraqis in Germany have important political and business positions.

The Iraqis in Germany have important mediating positions between Germany and Iraq. German companies trade with Iraqi markets as a result.

Iraq is presently in turmoil. This offers both obstacles and opportunities for the Iraqi Arabs to learn more fully of who Jesus truly is, but that will require believers to obey the Lord faithfully.
What Are Their Beliefs?

They are mainly Muslims, some Sunni, some Shia. Others follow Syriac Christianity. They have one of the largest Mandaean people groups in the world and they are followers of Mandaeism, a Gnostic religion.

What Are Their Needs?

Pray for the Holy Spirit to empower Iraqi Muslims to open their eyes and see Jesus.
