Introduction / History

The Holi Ije are a subgroup of the much larger Yoruba people. Unlike the Nigerian Yoruba, the Holi Ije live in Benin.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Holi Ije love body art. Their women have tattoos on their faces. The process of receiving a tattoo is very painful, especially for older women.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Holi Ije have had little contact with missionaries from either the Muslim or Christian communities. They remain committed to their traditional African religion.

What Are Their Needs?

The Holi Ije need to hear the name of the Lord so they can respond with heartfelt faith.

Prayer Points

Pray for Holi Ije Christian believers to disciple others who will make even more disciples.
Pray for the Lord to bless the Holi Ije abundantly this year as a sign of his power and goodness. May they respond with faith!
Pray for West African churches to send missionaries to the Holi Ije.
