Introduction / History

In the 1970s, some Hong Kong men married women from Thailand living in a region of Hong Kong called Kowloon City. There was a large amount of women working in Thailand and they believed things would be better for them in Hong Kong. The number of Thais in Hong Kong has decreased more recently.

Most of the Thai workers in Hong Kong do domestic work but some Indonesians are taking their place as they are paid less. Some Thais in Hong Kong work as hairdressers and in banks while others have businesses such as restaurants.

Most Thais in Hong Kong are Buddhists and they have four temples here. They have festivals to celebrate their New Year from the thirteenth to the fifteenth of April. They splash water on each other which they believe gets rid of bad luck and makes things go well for them.

The Thai Regional Alliance helps Thai domestic workers. It helps to promote good relations in Hong Kong. It also helps the Thais there to get better work opportunities. This organization works with NGOs also.

The main language of the Thais in Hong Kong is Thai but Cantonese and English are used also.

Prayer Points

* Pray that instead of believing in bad and good luck the Thais in Hong Kong will come to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that Hong Kong Christians will help lead them to Salvation too.
