Introduction / History

Saint Pierre and Miquelon are islands located south of Newfoundland, Canada. Saint Pierre and Miquelon are often called "where France meets North America." The people are heavily influenced by their mother land of France. They live a very European lifestyle. The people of Saint-Pierre are descendants of Basque, Breton, Normand and other French regions. Cod fishing on the Grand Banks has been the main occupation until recently when tourism has become the main industry.

What are Their Beliefs?

The people here have the influence of the Roman Catholic Church and a few Jehovah Witnesses. The overwhelming majority of the people claim to be Catholic.

What are Their Needs?

There is no Gospel witness there whatsoever. Because it is a small island, the youth tend to be influenced very easily.

* A strong Gospel witness.
* A permanent church presence.
